A
Note from Our President:
The
members of the
HCBA are generous, bright, creative lawyers and
judges who accomplish many selfless achievements individually and
collectively. We serve a diverse cross section of the community and
strive to serve more.
In
2012, the
HCBA has its nose to the grindstone working on the
following:
●Pro
Bono Legal Services: We are currently working with our Judiciary to
provide and improve legal services to those citizens who are
otherwise unable to afford private representation;
●Our
courts are led by some of the finest legal minds and most impartial
judges in the state. Cooperatively with our Bench, the
HCBA is
undertaking to enhance collegiality and improve our everyday working
environments;
and
●We
are challenged to improve and enhance our support and involvement
with the Guardian Ad
Litem Program which provides a voice for
children who may otherwise go unrepresented.
Our
members are dedicated to the profession and deserve social outlets
which we will continue to host. Alicia Adcock is now serving as our
social director and is working with Sean Blumenthal, Judge
Pfleging,
and the golf committee to be sure the Chili Cook-off, baseball and
golf outings, and Euchre Tournament will be competitive and
entertaining for all.
Led
by the efforts of Stephanie
Gookins and all those lawyers and Judges
who volunteer their time, the
HCBA educates high school students and
provides a competitive forum regarding court processes in the Mock
Trial Competition.
Thank you, to former president, John Terry, for his strength in
leadership and for providing us with a great example for how to
advance our vision and goals. As your next president, I plan to
focus our efforts on building camaraderie within our professional
community, providing more quality CLE opportunities, and
establishing ourselves as community leaders through our public
outreach. I look forward to working with all of you in making this
year our most successful yet.
