HAMILTON COUNTY TO
JOIN NEW PRO BONO DISTRICT
The Indiana Supreme Court has
adopted re-districting recommendations made by the Indiana Pro Bono
Commission. The Commission’s report can be viewed in full at www.indybar.org/_files/ProBonoRedistrictingReport2011.pdf
As a result, beginning January 1st, 2011, Hamilton County residents
will no longer be served by Heartland Pro Bono Council. Hamilton County
will join the district presently known as District 6 (along with Blackford,
Jay, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Henry and Hancock counties). The Pro
Bono District Program which will serve our needy residents is District Six
Access to Justice, Inc. The Executive Director is Christi Brock and
information about the program, including an application for referral to pro
bono counsel, can be found at www.myjustice.org.

PUBLIC SERVICE COMMITTEE
Jenna Stewart has been appointed
to chair the HCBA’s Public Service Standing Committee in 2012. The
objectives of the committee will be as follows:
1.) To increase the number of Hamilton County attorneys who provide pro bono
services (reported to be a dismal 9% in 2009).
2.) To conduct at least one pro bono program in the name of the HCBA during 2012.
Volunteers to serve on the committee will be asked to commit to a minimum of
one year of service, attendance at monthly committee meetings, and
follow-through on action items in support of the committee’s objectives.
Anyone interested in serving on the committee should contact Jenna Stewart at jms@jmstewartlaw.com

BAR ASSOCIATION REMEMBERS ITS MEMBERS
The HCBA honored the memories of Gary Dewester and Stephenie Jocham, on October 17th and October 21st, respectively. Many members attended and shared their fond memories of these two members of the bar who passed away this year.
HCBA GOLF OUTING A SUCCESS
The Hamilton County Bar Association hosted its Annual Judges and Lawyers Golf Outing on September 28th at Fox Prairie Golf Course in Noblesville. Thirty-five players of all skill levels participated in the 18-hole scramble-format tournament and enjoyed dinner, camaraderie, and prizes after golf. The team of Jim Crum, Jeff Zipes, Dan Coots, and Blake Shelby won this year’s event. Bruce Bittner, Brent Borg, Steve Lutz, and Harry Sauce finished 2nd.
The outing is open to any Indiana judge, lawyer, or law student, so be on the lookout for next year’s event. We welcome participation from lawyers and judges throughout the State. If you would like to be notified of next year’s outing, please contact Kevin Klausing at 317-846-6514.
