HAMILTON COUNTY TO JOIN NEW PRO BONO DISTRICT

The Indiana Supreme Court has adopted re-districting recommendations made by the Indiana Pro Bono Commission.  The Commission’s report can be viewed in full at www.indybar.org/_files/ProBonoRedistrictingReport2011.pdf

As a result, beginning January 1st, 2011, Hamilton County residents will no longer be served by Heartland Pro Bono Council.  Hamilton County will join the district presently known as District 6 (along with Blackford, Jay, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Henry and Hancock counties).  The Pro Bono District Program which will serve our needy residents is District Six Access to Justice, Inc.  The Executive Director is Christi Brock and information about the program, including an application for referral to pro bono counsel, can be found at www.myjustice.org.

MESSAGE FROM THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMITTEE

Jenna Stewart has been appointed to chair the HCBA’s Public Service Standing Committee in 2012.  The objectives of the committee will be as follows:

1.) To increase the number of Hamilton County attorneys who provide pro bono services (reported to be a dismal 9% in 2009).

2.) To conduct at least one pro bono program in the name of the HCBA during 2012.

Volunteers to serve on the committee will be asked to commit to a minimum of one year of service, attendance at monthly committee meetings, and follow-through on action items in support of the committee’s objectives.  Anyone interested in serving on the committee should contact Jenna Stewart at jms@jmstewartlaw.com or 317-690-2945.
